Grade 12 Essential: Unit I – Probability

Grade 12 Essential Unit I: Probability

Grade 12 Essential Probability Notes. Here are the notes for the unit. Of course you will want to condense the ideas onto your reference notes (study sheet).

Unit I – Probability YouTube Playlist.

Workbooks:

Worksheets (Due dates as per blogs)

Probability Introduction Assgt I-1  Due in class 22 Apr)

Experimental and Theoretical Probability  (Assgt I-2 Due )

Probability Puzzle  (I-3  Due as per blog)
Probability Practice  (Not Handin)
Odds in Favour or Against  (I-4 Due as per blog)
Expected Value Assignment (I-5 Due as per blog)

Expected Value Demonstration  Try this demo to confirm the theory and the experimantal values  (I-6 Due: in class)
Expected Value Fun. Some more expected value questions ()

Expected Value Game Project  (An optional project for those who may have missed a quiz and want some marks)

Game Project Exemplar (example of what is expected)

Deck of Cards Sample Space.  I find increasingly that students are unfamiliar with cards.

Grade 12 APPLIED Probability Notes. My Notes for Grade 12 Applied, they are considerably more substantial.

MathGoodies: Introduction to Probability.  A great site, has some animations

Algebra Lab Lesson – Introduction to Probability.

Probability – Certain and Impossible Events.

The Complement of an Event.   The complement is just the probability of the  NOT of something!

Extra Practice Example -Probability.

Probability Quiz.  Quiz yourself on-line.  Get your score.

Great Simulations.  Try the links here for some good simulations:

Coin Toss.

Spinner.

Spinners and Dice – Simulation – Experimental Probability.  This is an excellent interactive site.  Make your own spinners!  Make one that is 95% green and 5% Red.  Make dice with 2- fives if you want.  Run some experiments, have fun.  Hey, make dice that have all six sides that are fives!  What is your probability of rolling a sum of seven then?

Spinner Simulation.  Great interactive spinner.  Design your own.  Make it 97% Green if you want. Compare the experimental with the theoretical.

Marbles Marbles Marbles.  Lost your marbles?  Don’t worry, you can simulate a bagful of them here.  Invent your own bag of marbles, make 10,000 draws if you want.  Replace or don’t replace the marbles.  It is all fun, watch the experimental probability compared to the theoretical probability of what you did.  A riot.

Plinko    A wonderful App to see the Binomial Distribution, the number of pathways in a game of Plinko! Pascal’s Triangle!!  The Price is Right game show

Games (fun for the whole family)

Quia – Probability Battleship. [needs flashplayer]
Quia – Challenge Board Jeopardy.  Play against another player.  Probability, ratios, percents, …
