Prior Studies – High School Preparation

Some typical prior studies that it is very favourable  with which to be familiar.  I have way more ample resources than I can possibly post on line! See me if whether you want a five page review package or a twenty page review package for particular interests!  Or better yet, hang out outside of class time!

Cheat Sheets. 

In the event you missed or forgot parts of Grades 8 and 9 Mathematics perhaps these ‘cheat sheets’ (study and reference notes) may help refresh!

Grade 8 Reference Notes;              Grade 9 Reference Notes Teacher will issue the cheat sheets to you!  Explore them on the bus, in the tub, at lunch, ……. Teacher has tons of resource material to patch up the stuff you forgot or missed.  Hangout!  Ask!

Decent Calculator.  Get a decent Calculator, see my Decent Calculators movie.  

Get a Decent Calculator!  A decent scientific calculator is essential.  A $3 Dollarama Calculator is not sufficient.

    • Decent Calculator Movie.  Get one that shows the entire expression you type in, just like you write it!  Check out the movie that explains what to get:  Decent Calculator.  Get one that does fractions too if you have vowed to never learn those.

DOWNLOADS.  There are several good calculators to download as a ‘free’ App on your mobile device too! Desmos Scientific Calculator: On Google Play; on IOS (Apple Store) Geogebra Scientific Calculator on Google Play (Android), on IOS Play Store

ON-LINE CALCULATORS.  Here are several calculators that require no download and just work in your browser if you have an internet connection: Geogebra Scientific Calculator On-Line, or Desmos Scientific Calculator On-Line. (Book mark those on your device)

HANDHELD CALCULATORS.  But for $14 you can get a perfectly good scientific calculator at Walmart that does everything without messing about on a mobile device. Here is a typical Walmart Scientific Calculator for less than $15, Scientific, Multi-Line, and has an Ab/c button that does fractions!

Prior Studies – Add, Subtract, Multiply, Divide.

Workbook – Operations on Whole and Decimal Numbers.  A large complete workbook on on Arithmetic,Add, Subtract, Multiply, Divide.   Answers to Workbook to Operations on Whole and Decimal numbers. Videos – Math Antics – Basic Arithmetic.  23 wonderful videos explaining basic Arithmetic.  Get this to your kids and family! Multiplication Tables.  Math is so very very  brutal if you do not know your multiplication tables!   It will take two weeks and 8 hours of your time!  Do it! 

Times Tables Resources:
    1. Printable Times Table.  Print these, memorize!  Problem only a dozen in there you do not know!
    2. Mini Times Table Image.   Just down load this to your oictures on phone.  Make it a favourite.  Something to study on bus!
    3.  On Line Multiplication Tables and Printables.
    4.  Multiplication Facts Movie. Why it is so very important to know the ‘times table’ and how to make it easy!
    5.  Multiplication Facts Movie. Watch this multiplication table movie a few times, it gets faster and faster.
    6.  Check out this Playlist for Multiplication.
    7.  Multiplication Flash Cards. Need to practice your multiplication tables to review? Practice here.
    8.  On-Line Quiz – Multiplication. Quiz yourself, get a score! Switch over to add, subtract, or divide quizzes too!
    9.  Fun Game – Multiplication Madness.  See if you can win $1 Million.
    10.  Fun Game – Multiplication and Division.  A good challenging game.  See if you win $1 Million  Send me a screen shot if you win!
    11. Multiplication Practice.

    14. Interactive Times Table for any Device.

    18.  Apps for your device.  There are a zillion Apps on your device that do times tables.  Download one, practice.  Use your device!

Worksheets.  Short worksheets to practice basic arithmetic.  Some people rely on a calculator instead (?)

Prior Studies – Fractions.

Make sure you can do fractions on your calculator too!  A decent calculator will have a button   ‘a b/c’  .  Or just get a decent app on your phone or tablet.

Math Antics – Fractions Movies. A video series of 16 perfect movies on Fractions.  This teacher is totally awesome! Don’t forget though!  Watching and doing are not the same thing!  You still need to practice yourself!

Fractions Game.  Draw a card!  Make the fraction!

Some Individual Fractions Practice Worksheets:

Pre-Algebra Pre-Algebra.  Algebra is the main way of solving relationships using simple symbols instead of annoying words!

Decent Calculator

Decent Calculator.  Check out this Decent Calculator Movie.  A calculator does basic and advanced operations quickly and reliably.  Of course, you are just as smart as a calculator, just may take a little longer and a couple tries.  Make sure you have a decent scientific calculator.  One that shows entire expressions as they are input (multi-line) and one perhaps one that even does fractions if you really really detest those.  Here are a couple movies I have done to demonstrate the type(s) of calculators you should consider.  Of course there are a zillion calculator apps you can download to your device.  Generally the calculators built into your device are not sufficient and are not much better than a Dollarama calculator.
