Grade 10 Essential Unit B – Personal Finance

B-1  Unit B Notes.  Notes Frame for the Unit. These are your condensed note frames for the unit. Some notes, some examples, spaces for you to fill in.  A bit dated!  Minimum wage etc is a bit higher than in these notes.

B-2  Unit B- YouTube Play List – A selection of supporting videos. Select ‘Play All’, sit back, interact.  Bearing in mind a video is not a good way to learn! It takes away your thinking, just pours info into your head.  A good way to review or get familiar though.  Watching someone else do the work is not the same as you doing it.

B-4  Net Income Calculation Template. A handy little template to calculate Net Income. Of course it is really a little bit more complicated than this’ but this is certainly the big idea and is close. If you own a small business YOU would have to do all this to pay your employees.  Here is a Net Pay Template_Mini.

B-5  Wages, Income, Deductions.  

How Payroll is Calculated.  The official income tax documentation on how to do deductions from pay, deduction codes, etc.  Really intense and boring.  But if you own a company or are on a council you would need to know this!

B-11  RRSP Calculator! What income do you want when you retire?  Try this great RRSP calculator., it will tell you what you need to start saving now if you want to retire with a certain income. beyond just Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Supplement (OAS).

B-15  ** Unclaimed Balances. Some surprise income for the family! Check this out. You may have a grandpa or great uncle or something that left behind lots of money in a bank account, and no-one knew about it! If a bank account is untouched for 10 years it ends up here!
