Today’s Lesson.

Grade 12 Applied Exam Practice Questions.  Hopefully students have started done more of the practice questions that were issued 11 days ago and are not waiting for the teacher to do them!  We will finish off the review today.  We start this morning again at page eight of 30.

Hints for a exams:

  • The final exam typically takes a median time of 2 hours, usually a quarter of the students are done in 75 mins, some drag it out for the full 3 hours which is fine.
  • Do not cram, an all nighter and a bunch of videos till 2 am is not likely going to help.  Better to get some sleep
  • Arrive on time
  • Have a breakfast before the exam
  • Check over the entire exam! Do not start on the very first question!  Start on the questions you like the best!  Go back through the entire exam and make sure you did not miss a question though!
  • Do a smart guess on the multiple choice if necessary.  Eliminate the obviously wrong answer though!
  • Make sure when you get a solution that it actually answers the question, go back and re-read the question.  Often students do a wonderful job of calculating a radius, but the question was to determine a diameter.
  • Pay attention to the mark value of a question.  Do not waste time on a question that is fewer marks.
  • Show work!  Showing work, neatly and organized helps the student think and the teacher to mark.  Often teachers will give good marks for a well organized solution even if the answer is not completely correct or the student had a ‘ brain fart ‘.
  • Show Screenshots of TVM and of Graphing questions
  • Show Units! Money Values have $ unit, some objects have square units and cubic units! Show the correct units, one cannot hold a volume of milk on a square!
  • Round as indicated.  Do not round in the middle of a calculation, round at the end.
  • Use separate scrap paper if necessary for calculations, particularly the Multiple Choice (Selected Response) if necessary.  The scrap paper solution will not be marked.

Interesting Resource:

Grade 12 Achievement Tests Information Bulletin (2025/26).  Although we do not write the provincial exams this is a good link to see what is expected on a Final Exam and how teachers mark.  Notice that my Exam is ~35% Multiple Choice (Selected Response) and 65% Open Response.
